Wireless networks are very reliable, as long as the are implemented in the correct way. For WiFi networks, there are professional tools available to make a good diagnostics, which makes it possible to take preventive precautions. Wireless Sensor & Actuator networks are technological much more advanced compared to WiFi networks. Many problems can be tackled by them without human intervention and will not have any impact on the production. The networks can recover more than once without any impact, but this doesn’t mean you don’t have to act and solve the problem. There will come a moment that all network recources are blocked, because no proper actions have been taken.

Preventive maintenance

Maintenance is needed. It is recommended to check the network diagnostics on a regular basis. Based on the signal measurements and other results a proper action plan should be made and executed. It is also advisable to regularly check the radio spectrum. And of course you need to train the customer engineers from time to time.

Corrective maintenance

When the network is implemented in the right way and all precautions and procedures have been followed, the risk of a network failure is small. In case of a Wireless Sensor Network this chance is nearly zero; because you can implement a lot of redundant routes, have alternative communication channels etc. Our opinion is that this risk isn’t higher than on a wired network.
